Our Mission

The mission of the James’s Warr;ors not for profit organization is to provide a resource to those affected by suicide through public awareness and education. We aim to bring change to the way mental health is perceived, reduce the stigma surrounding it and prevent suicide.

Our Logo

Many have asked about our logo. When we were looking for a logo design, we used social media to ask for suggestions. As you can imagine, we received many beautiful designs. One of James’s friends with whom he attended barbering school sent me a message expressing design interest. I was very excited about this as he was a talented tattoo artist. He shared this logo and I knew James would approve. For those who don’t know, James loved sneakers and had quite a collection. So with this in mind and our motto, No One Walks Alone, we knew this was a perfect representation for James’s Warr;ors. Adding the Suicide Prevention and Survivors’ colors, we have the perfect logo for us.

Our Story

In October of 2018, our son James Thomas died by suicide. Our son’s death was a complete shock to us, our family and friends. We had no idea that James was suicidal. Since then, we have learned so much about depression, anxiety, and suicide. We would never want a family to have to endure this kind of loss. We, with the help of our family and friends, founded a not-for-profit organization called James’s Warr;ors. Our goal is to teach our communities to talk about mental illness without shame and secrecy.

I know our son loved us very much. We talked all the time. We never knew what he was struggling with in his own mind. He was a funny, handsome, smart, and caring person. He never let on that he thought that suicide was his only resort.

James’s Warr;ors thanks you for your commitment to saving lives. Together we can stop the stigmas associated with mental health and suicide. Our motto is: No One Walks Alone!

James Thomas

Our Approach

Dr. Arnoff is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who has focused her time working with children, adolescents, and young adults presenting with anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicidal ideation for more than ten years. In our presentation she speaks about the emotions associated with depression, things to watch for in yourself and others, ways to promote connectedness, as well as useful tools and resources pertaining to mental health.

Donna Thomas speaks about the grief associated with losing a loved one to suicide in her own personal account of losing her son, James, to suicide in October 2018. Her story includes personal letters from James, comparing his life between the months leading up to his death, and how easy it is to think, “this could never happen to me.“ It's a raw and emotional look into the truth behind the stigma surrounding suicide and provides an intense understanding into why the James's Warr;ors organization is working to promote open conversations about mental illness and spreading the message "No One Walks Alone."

The Semicolon

Why do we use a semicolon in our name and logo?

The semicolon is a symbol of hope for those who are struggling with mental health and thoughts of suicide. It helps serve as a reminder that your story isn’t over yet and you can share your story without shame. A semicolon is used when a writer could have chosen to end their sentence but chose not to. You are the writer and the sentence is you. Your life can continue. Your life matters and you are someone's blessing.
